Colonoscopy Social Media Case Study

Pauly Trimmed

Here’s another case study from the recent Healthcare Internet Conference in Las Vegas. I got a chance to interview Jason Voelker from ThedaCare about Pauly Polyp (pictured above) and the idontwantacolonoscopy.com Web site that invites users to share their excuses for not complying with colon cancer screening guidelines.

Pauly is on Twitter, too.

What’s your excuse (for not getting a colonoscopy, or not getting on Twitter)? Really, neither of them are that painful.

Putting Social Media to Good Use

Today I’m honored to be presenting to a group of folks working (mainly) in local government communications, and I’m doing it in St. Paul, Minnesota, for the Minnesota Association of Government Communicators‘ fall conference. It’s a bit of a “back to the future” day for me, because I worked in government in St. Paul for about six years: partly at the Minnesota capitol, and partly as an assistant to a Ramsey County Commissioner. This gives me a lot in common with these folks, because I’ve been in their shoes (although it was in the pre-Web days.) So I’m looking forward to a great discussion.

If you want to join the discussion, we will be using the #magc hashtag.

Making the Business Case

Today I’m presenting at the 2009 Communications Conference for AHIP, the association of America’s Health Insurance Plans. I’m looking forward to hearing Dr. Atul Gawande at the opening session, especially since he wrote an article in The New Yorker that highlighted the cost-effective care provided by my employer, Mayo Clinic.

Here’s my presentation deck:

Oklahoma Hospital Association

I’m delighted to be in Oklahoma City today for a presentation with @EdBennett and David Harlow (@Healthblawg) on use of social media in healthcare. I’m excited that we have this case study going on even while the presentation is happening. I will be inviting the Oklahoma tweeps to join the #wristpain twitter chat, as a live, hands-on experience with social media and synergy with mainstream media.

Leadership Institute Presentation

I’m in Boca Raton, Florida this morning for a presentation to  the Founders group of the Leadership Institute, a group of top leaders from about 20 major hospital systems. I’m going to be speaking about my 35 Social Media Theses, and given the time allotted I’m going to get to directly address about 20 of them. Here are my slides:
